The Weekly Design AMA Recap #1

The Weekly Design AMA Recap #1
Boundaries are good—but so is sharing knowledge! Each week during my Office Hours, I tackle your biggest design dilemmas, business-of-design questions, and the occasional curveball (yes, even the weather). While I can’t design a room over Instagram or do a deep dive into every question, I can help move the needle on the most common challenges you’re facing.

That’s why we’re introducing this weekly AMA recap, where I’ll share the top questions from our Sunday sessions—along with my actionable insights and advice. Whether you missed Office Hours or just want a refresher, this is where you’ll find design solutions, business tips, and a little bit of everything in between. Let’s learn together and build a community that thrives on collaboration. Let’s dive in. XXK

Q: Favorite Indoor light and medium brown paint colors

A: The Alderly Flush Mount is the hardest working light in my toolbox and @farrowandball Pelt or @benjaminmoore Middlebury or Clinton Brown.

Q: Where do you get curtain Rods? And curtain rules to live by?

A: @makkasdrapery does it all for us - they use a lot of @lundysiron. I always request my drapes kiss the floor, no puddle.

Q: Type of flooring for a basement

A: Porcelain, tile, wood or durable mold resistant carpet.

Q: Formula for mixing brass and nickel in a bath? Plumbing one metal and hardware the other?

A: Plumbing I typically do Polished Nickel and then mirror, hardware, light in brass, bronze, Polished Nickel or both! All plumbing plus toilet flusher and accessories keep the same.

Want to ask your own question? Join my office hours on Sundays from 8:00 - 9:00 AM. Here’s how it works:

  1. Ask all questions on each Sunday on @katierosenfeld, when the AMA box appears.

  2. Please do not DM questions

  3. Ask one question per subscriber each week

  4. Ask straightforward questions that require little back-and-forth

  5. Ask ANYTHING (I mean it!) besides trade secrets or insights I deem to be client-only resource
