Tell us a little about yourself—how did you get started in design?
Growing up in the North Shore of Chicago and being surrounded by beautiful homes I always was interested in interior design. I went to the University Of Alabama and studied Interior Design there. My first job was at Christopher Peacock which began my career in residential design.
Do you have a signature design element or style that defines your work?
Our interiors have a polished, timeless feel. Emphasis on crisp colors and comfortable textures . Our ability to mix bespoke and antique pieces with personal items allows us to create unique, livable spaces that are authentic to each project.
Was there a specific project that shaped your approach to design?
Not a specific one because every project is so different. I think each project we do we learn something new and we are always evolving.
What’s the best piece of design advice you’ve ever received, and how has it influenced your work?
We like to tell clients that if you aren't a little scared of what we are showing you then we are not doing our job. Some career advice that has helped along the way was to stay humble and be kind. Also, hire a good photographer and stylist.
What’s one thing you wish more people understood about working with an interior designer?
That it takes lots of time and trust to create the beautiful interiors they see in books or social media. The process should be fun and enjoyable no matter how long it may take. Your home should be a reflection of you, and it should be collected over time.
What’s your favorite design trend this year, and how are you bringing it into your projects?
I'm really loving the use of the color brown. Whether it is in the paint color or a fabric. It grounds the space while adding a chic element.
Where do you find the most inspiration—travel, nature, fashion, or something else?
Travel, treasure hunting and exploring old homes.
If you were designing your dream bathroom from scratch, what’s the first thing you’d choose?
I always start with Tile and then go from there.
If you could use just one wallpaper in a bathroom, which would it be and why?
I love so many wallpapers but right now I'm loving the Highgrove Collection from Sanderson. The Wildflower Meadow in any colorway paired with the Evie in Yellow Ground would be so cute in a kid's bathroom.
What’s your favorite Vanity & Co. style and how would you customize it for your client? Would you paint the vanity in a bold color, use a fun fabric? We’d love to know.
I love the Evie. I would paint it in Farrow and Ball Yellow Ground.
